How to get a 12.6% discount on fuel
If you’re paying for your petrol / diesel topup using cold, hard cash (or even NETs), you ought to be shot like the bald old man below (you see, he paid using cash).
Today, credit card companies offer all kinds of privileges on petrol and car ownership that you would have be an idiot not to make use of it!
I personally pump at ExxonMobil, and use the Citibank Dividend Mastercard.
Pumps today typically give a flat discount of 5%, and the Citibank Dividend Mastercard has a 5% cash rebate as well as a 3% cashback for ExxonMobil. The former gets sent to you via check, and the latter gets credited directly into your credit card account, offsetting some of your dues.
Total discount: 5% + (95% * 5%) + (95% * 3%) = 12.6%!
If you use other credit cards or are loyal to other petrol companies, you should check out this guide by Petrol Watch, which gives a good summary of the discounts available in the market and is quite up to date.
How else do you reduce your costs of ownership of a vehicle?

Are you sure the calculation is correct? Anyway, 12.6% rebate is very high, it’s like every 10 litre of petrol, you get one litre free.

Danny, Just got this off petrolwatch.com.sg
Higher grade of petrol at a lower price!
After reducing petrol prices by 6 cents on Tuesday, Shell still has more to offer! Pump the V-Power grade of petrol from 7pm to 11pm on the weekends at the price of Formula 98’s! That’s more than 10 cents per litre!
Promotion ends 11 Nov 2008.
