Challenge your boss to fire you
Go ahead - walk up to your boss and tell him/her, “Hey, why don’t you fire me today?”
(This is Tip #7 in the Surviving The Recession Financially series)

Many of us, me included, are salaried staff, or to put it more crudely, wage-slaves. We’re bound to our jobs, for better or worse, and let’s be honest here, the recession for some of us is even a blessing!
Isn’t it? Prices come down and you pay less for stuff. Condo prices drop. Car prices drop. Prices are dropping everywhere, yet our salary mostly remains the same! Even the stock market holds bargains!
But yet, if we lose this job, we’re pretty much screwed, arn’t we? Bills to pay and no job to provide the cash - hello, hell!
So, what I really mean is really not to get yourself fired, but to think a little harder about this: Will your boss readily fire you if you ask? Or are you one of the key indispensable employees?
Think about it - any promotion (even if it doesn’t happen during these recessionary times) is a permanent increase in your ROI of your invested time and effort in your day job. It’s well worth it! Now’s not the time to be going on vacation, or slacking off, even if your company has reduced workload due to the recession.
Yes, now’s the time to prove your worth! No one will lay off a star performer, plus, when the recession is over, you’ll be the first one to get promoted. Now ain’t that great? :) Unless, of course, you’re *looking* to get fired…

the point about being indispensable is interesting. From an employee perspective, you want to be indispensable but than again if an employee is indispensable, this likely means that the organization isn’t as sustainable and well run?
food for thoughts…:)

Haha, to me, that’s too bad for management ;)
If you’re indispensable, it’s much easier to ask for a raise!
